Sakura Station (佐倉駅, Sakura-eki?) is a railway station operated by JR East located in Sakura, Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
History
Sakura Station was opened on July 20, 1894 as a terminal station on the Sōbu Railway Company for both freight and passenger operations. The Narita Railway connected to Sakura Station on January 19, 1897, and the Sōbu Railway was extended to Naruto Station on May 1 of the same year. The Sōbu Railway was nationalised on September 1, 1907 becoming part of the Japanese Government Railways (JGR), as was the Narita Railway on September 1, 1920. After World War II, the JGR became the Japanese National Railways (JNR). Scheduled freight operations were suspended from February 1, 1984. A new station building was completed in December 1985. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987.
